Hello, I’m Jessica Foley and I started my Peds Heme/Onc fellowship at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in 2011. I am a 2007 graduate of Michigan State University College of Human Medicine (Grand Rapids Campus), and did my pediatric residency training at University of Michigan Mott Children’s Hospital. I even stayed for a chief residency year there as well
I have been very impressed with the large volume and diversity of both oncology and hematology patients that I have acquired since starting my training. I have also been pleased with how comfortable I have become with procedures since starting my training, the large volume definitely ensures that I am never lacking in procedural experience. I am appreciative of the wonderful mentorship that has placed strong emphasis on my education and has gone to great lengths to incorporate my clinical and research interests into my training. Overall I think that the diversity of patient population and diagnoses, large clinical volume, including procedures, innovative research at the Van Andel Institute, flexibility in training, in addition to strong mentorship, have made for a wonderful fellowship experience here at Helen DeVos Children’s.
I have enjoyed collaborating with both MD and PhD researchers at the Van Andel Institute and have been impressed with the breadth of research that the institute has to offer. I am looking forward to spending more time there during my research years.
Finally a little about myself, in my free time I enjoy camping and outdoor rock climbing in Kentucky and West Virginia, although I’ll be making my first trip out west this fall! There is nothing like Michigan in the summer and I enjoy heading “Up North” to the lake frequently for a weekend of boating and sailing. I absolutely love living in West Michigan and being so close to Lake Michigan and its gorgeous beaches and recreational opportunities outside the hospital.
