Stacie Adams, MD
I've dreamed of becoming a Pediatrician since middle school, and as a native of Grand Rapids I have always always pictured the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in my mind. Having the opportunity to return to Grand Rapids for my pediatric training is truly a (long awaited) dream come true. After graduating from Northview High School, I ventured to North Carolina where I received my undergraduate degree in Genetics and Child Development from Duke University. From there I spent a year w orking at the Duke University Medical Center before moving on to the University of North Carolina for medical school. I LOVE college basketball, and while my most recent affiliation is with a lighter shade of blue, I will always be a Blue Devil (and a Cameron Crazie) at heart. In my free time (?), my husband Mike (also a West Michigan native) and I are busy taking care of our triplet boys whom we welcomed into our lives in March of 2011. We can't wait to bring them (along with our two shih tzus Roger and Bella) camping with us and start showing them the beauty of West Michigan! I also enjoy playing the roles of Secretary and Creative Director for Mike's small photography business.

Chris Arnos, MD I was born and raised on a farm in the small northwestern Ohio town of Stryker. I headed south for a zoology degree at Miami University (of Ohio) and medical school at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. While in med school I married my beautiful undergrad sweetheart Lauren, now a data analyst in marketing. In my free time I like any and all outdoor activities with a soft spot for road biking and kayaking. My wife and I also enjoy cooking for and entertaining friends, spending time with family, and reading.

Although born in Maryland, I’ve spent most my life in Michigan, specifically Flint and Brighton. After receiving a B.S in biology from the University of Michigan, I attended Wayne State School of Medicine. I am looking forward to being on the west side of the state and being closer to Lake Michigan. In my spare time I love to spend time with my family; although my six brothers can be a handful, my four nieces aren’t. I also enjoy running, biking, and just being outside in general.

Born and raised in the city of Detroit, I ventured not too far for undergrad at the University of Michigan (Go Blue!). After returning home for medical school at Wayne State I am excited to head to the land of the Spartan for residency. In my spare time like to travel (the further, the better), stay active and spend time with the people I love. I’m looking forward to new adventures exploring the west side of the state!

Born and raised in Grand Rapids, I’m a true west Michigan girl. Growing up, I spent my summers on Michigan’s many lakes; boating, camping, and getting into anything outside. I went to Western Michigan University for undergrad then took off after graduation for the wild, wild west. I spent my time camping, backpacking, kayaking, canoeing, and climbing my way through the Rockies. After two years my adventures eventually took me home again and I began medical school at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Within that time I met my amazing husband and adopted two aussies, Cassidy and Kiah. Although a little worn for the wear, I am finally back in west Michigan and I couldn’t be more excited.

Jon Felt, MD
I was born and raised just outside of Seattle, Washington. After two years living in Switzerland, I returned to the U.S. and studied Chemical Engineering at Brigham Young University in Utah. I met my wife, Keriann, at BYU and we’ve been married now since 2004. The University of Toledo provided the stage for medical school and officially brought us to the Midwest. There, we welcomed our son, James, during second year and will be starting residency expecting our second child. Though I do sometimes miss the mountains and culture of the Pacific Northwest, we definitely consider ourselves Midwest transplants now and are super excited to be in Grand Rapids. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my wife and son. We can often be found watching a college sport of one kind or another (football, softball, and basketball are our favorites), watching one of the 300+ movies we own, experimenting in the kitchen with a new recipe, or playing outside at the park. Keriann is an avid gardener/soil science expert (she can get anything to grow), loves to sew, and play board games. I read about anything I can get my hands on, cross-stitch, dream of future vacations and world travel, and wish I could play more golf.

I grew up in Hammond, in the northwest corner of Indiana. It's a 40 minute trip on the South Shore train to downtown Chicago, but still far enough out of downtown that I had a yard I could play baseball in. In my free time, I love to go see the sports teams I grew up watching on chicagoland tv, as well as anything outdoors.

Melissa Huang, MD
I was born in New York City and during my middle school years, my parents decided to move to somewhere colder. They threw a dart at a map and we ended up in Ohio. I attended Kent State University for undergrad and Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine (now renamed to Northeast Ohio Medical University) for medical school. Following tradition, I decided to go to somewhere even colder after graduation to Grand Rapids. Now, my new goal is to learn how to snowboard. I enjoy traveling, eating, watching cartoons and spending time with friends and family (especially with my adorable niece). I love trying new foods and going to food festivals. Coke beats Pepsi and New York style pizza beats Chicago deep dish. Grand Rapids is a beautiful city and the people are awesome. I am excited about the next three years!

Candace Johnson, MD I’m a Michigan native--born and raised in Flint, MI. I spent my undergrad years in Ann Arbor at the University of Michigan (Go Blue!!) where I received a B.S. in Biology and English Lit. My next stop in Michigan: East Lansing for medical school at Michigan State University (but just so there’s no confusion: in spite of my choice of medical school, I’m a die-hard Wolverine :-) I bleed maize and blue!) I love spending time with my family & friends (they’re a big reason why I have yet to escape Michigan for a warmer state). In my free time I can be found curled up with a good book, baking in the kitchen, or soaking up the sun and the sights outdoors. I love traveling, eating, trying new things, and finding reasons to laugh at myself. I’m super excited to explore Grand Rapids and am looking forward to spending my residency here!

I grew up in St. Johns, Michigan and attended Michigan State University for both my undergrad, majoring in Human Biology, and medical school. Having attended countless games over the past 15 years, including 3 basketball Final Fours, I am likely one of the biggest Spartan fans you will ever meet. Go Green! I recently married the girl of my dreams, Katie, and enjoy spending time with her and our dog, Murray. I love to golf and had the great opportunity to play The Old Course, in St. Andrews Scotland while in undergrad. I also enjoy reading, cooking, hiking, dog training and traveling. I am very excited to begin my training at the DeVos Children’s Hospital and look forward to working with the many wonderful people here.

Laura Most, MD I’m a Michigander through and through. I was born and raised in Davison, Michigan, a small town outside of Flint. Although I vowed growing up that I would head to the east coast the first chance I got, I ended up completing my undergraduate degree in Human Biology and Bioethics at Michigan State University and medical school at Wayne State University (both of which were in a 1 hour radius of my hometown). I quickly realized my dreams of moving out of Michigan were long gone and have instead opted never to leave, which is why I’m very excited to call Grand Rapids my new home! In my spare time I love to do anything that involves being outdoors, especially if it is at my family’s cottage up north, which is without a doubt my favorite place on Earth! I love skiing (winter or summer), swimming, hiking, biking, etc. I also enjoy many artistic hobbies, which include painting, drawing, woodworking, and any craft or design project I can get my hands on. Most importantly, I love spending time with my family and friends, a majority of whom reside in Michigan, which is why I’m so happy to stay in this state that I’ve always called home!

Melissa Schneider, MD I was born and raised in Novi, Michigan. I went to Northwestern University where I majored in Psychology. I then moved out to the east coast to Thomas Jefferson University/Jefferson Medical College for my MPH and then my MD. After ten years away from the great state of Michigan, I’m happy to be finally returning and even more excited to be a part of HDVCH! In my free time, I enjoy scuba diving, traveling, going out with friends, watching hockey, and practicing karate. I am looking forward to trying new things out here in West Michigan!

Kyle Slone, MD I was born and raised in eastern Kentucky. I attended the University of Kentucky for undergrad where I received degrees in Chemistry and Biology and met my wonderful wife and together we attended medical school at UK. She will be an intern in ob/gyn at GRMEP and we are both very excited to move to Western Michigan. I am a HUGE UK Wildcats fan and I enjoy running, weightlifting, and reading science fiction, historical, and classical novels in my spare time.

Abby St. Jacques, MD I consider Grand Rapids home as most of my extended family lives here and I spent more time here than anywhere else. However, I also lived in Germany for three years as a child and Thailand for my last two years of high school. Needless to say, I have developed a love for traveling and learning about other cultures. I attended Houghton College in Western NY for undergrad where I met my husband Matt. We got married in the summer of 2007 right before I started med school at Michigan State. Matt is from Albany, NY so we spend much of our vacation time traveling to see his family and stopping to see friends from undergrad along the way. We enjoy spending time with family and friends both in the Grand Rapids area and in New York. I grew up loving Lake Michigan so Matt and I still spend as much time there in the summer as possible. We love to camp, hike and do just about anything outdoors especially if we can bring our corgi Fiona along. We also spend a lot of time with the kids and youth at our church where Matt works as the Youth Director. I like to cook, garden and be crafty when I have the time. I am especially enjoying the end of 4th year with some time off. I just got back from a medical trip to Haiti with a great team from GR and then we will be traveling in May with my family to Ireland and Germany for vacation. I am looking forward to continuing to be in Grand Rapids as I have been here for three years of medical school. I know I will be surrounded by great people and it is an exciting place to be.

Meghan Behrmann, MD
I was born in ND, but spent the majority of my childhood just outside of Rapid City, SD in the amazingly beautiful Black Hills. I attended school in the famous, or maybe infamous, Sturgis, and am SO excited to spend and August away from the area and not surrounded by hundreds of thousands of motorcycles! I called the University of South Dakota home for undergraduate and medical school, but was excited about trying out a new state for residency. Even though I miss my mountains, my husband and I are loving the forests and lakes of West Michigan. In my free time I most enjoy spending time outdoors with my husband and our black lab, Sammy. Friends and family would also say that at those times, I am rarely seen without my camera around my neck. I love capturing and editing images of all kinds for myself, family, friends and even the occasional client. I was also born into a legacy of Vikings football mania (despite how they break my heart every season!) and thoroughly enjoy cooking, reading, and going out for a great dinner with friends.

Alicia DeMarco, MD
After telling my father at the beginning of my senior year of high school that there was no way I was going to attend Michigan State, his alma mater, I fell in love with the school and ended up going to MSU for undergrad and medical school. I also fell in love with my husband, Scott, while we were playing water polo at State, and he proposed under Beaumont Tower in the middle of campus. We've been married since 2008, but are waiting to have kids until God creates the 36 hour day. Until then, we have a most imaginative and spunky nephew and niece to keep us laughing, and four hardy goldfish, Robbie, Cecelia, Jack Bauer, and Renee Walker, to remind us that if we can't keep a fish tank clean, we are probably not ready for diapers. I still try to play water polo (infrequently and much more slowly), and go to as many of the Rockford girls' water polo games as I can. Scott gets frustrated with my long list of unfinished house projects, but always have something crafty and creative on the back burner. Cooking remains an elusive skill, which means I am now adept at disabling all of the smoke detectors in the vicinity of the kitchen in our new house. If I could be anywhere else right now, it would be Sevilla, Spain, which is my favorite place in the world. I spent my last elective in medical school just south of Sevilla trying to polish up my medical Spanish before residency, and am looking forward to using that Spanish in the hospital and residency clinic.

I was born right here in Grand Rapids, but grew up in West Lafayette, Indiana (go Purdue!). I came back to Michigan for undergrad at Calvin College and attended Michigan State for medical school. In my free time....I enjoy spending time with family (especially my new nephew), traveling, going out with friends, watching movies, trying new restaurants, and cheering on the MSU Spartans.

I was born and raised in the beautiful country of Chile, in Santiago between the Pacific Ocean and the Andes mountains. I have lived in West Michigan for many years, and most of my family lives around the areas as well so I am super excited about doing my residency in Grand Rapids in such a great program! I graduated from Grand Valley State University with a biomedical science degree, and attended medical school at Michigan State College of Osteopathic Medicine.
I enjoy spending time with family, especially with my husband Eelco (who grew up in The Netherlands...making our little family quite culturally diverse), my brand new baby boy Brammetje (who was born Valentine's Day..awe), and last but not least our twenty-pound kitty Jimmy. I love to sing and I'm blessed with the opportunity to be part of our youth group's worship team along with my husband. I also love to draw, learn bits and pieces of languages, travel, and spend any chance I get enjoying creation outdoors!

I was born and raised near Cambridge, England, so of course I went to Oxford for my undergrad degree in German and Russian literature. Having met my American wife while studying in Russia, we eventually made it out to Miami, where I decided medical school was right for me. So a second undergraduate degree later (this one including science....), and after a year studying epidemiology at the University of Michigan, I started medical school at Michigan State, first in Lansing for 2 years, then way up north in Marquette for my clinical years. In my free time I stay active one way or another - mountain biking and skiing are favorites. I also enjoy choral singing when my schedule permits. I'm active in the Baha'i community, and am a sucker for stray cats. I'm very excited to be spending the next 3 years in Grand rapids, both because of the location and the wonderful faculty and residents in the program.

Well, I was born up dere, in dat dere Fargo, ND don'tcha know, yah. However, I grew up right across the Red River of the North, in Moorhead, MN. I graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead with majors in Biology and Chemistry and the received my MD from that 'other U of M,' the University of Minnesota. I like to joke that I'm the winner of the mascot lottery. I was a Spud (potato) in high school, a Cobber (ear of corn or corncob) in college and then really moved up in the world when I graduated from vegetables and got to be a Golden Gopher (rodent) in medical school. A pretty fearsome trio I dare say! I'm passionate about sports, especially soccer (hurray, it's a World Cup year!). I also enjoy reading, listening to music, writing haiku, traveling, and spending time with family and friends in my spare time. In addition, if there's a lake, bonfire and a sunset involved on any given day, I am a huge fan. While Michigan does not lay claim to the "Land of 10,000 Lakes" like Minnesota, I hear they have a few bodies of water here and a rather large one near Grand Rapids. Needless to say, along with the great Pediatrics program, I'm pretty excited about the prospects of my move to Michigan.
A Transition Haiku: Sub the N for I (MN - MI) Adventures in Peds await, A Grand 'ol time!

I was born and raised in LaSalle-Peru, IL and attended The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, majoring in Molecular and Cellular Biology while also receiving a minor in Chemistry. I followed that with a medical degree from The University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria. I recently got married to Heather Binder (Jereb), a co-resident in OB-GYN, whom I met while in medical school. I am a college sports fanatic and am without a doubt a die-hard Fighting Illini fan. I love to watch college sports the most, but am willing to watch any type of sports entertainment. I also enjoy movies, spending quality time with friends, all types of games, and golfing. I also enjoy trying new restaurants and sampling new beers/wines from local shops and breweries.

I grew up in Michigan where I began dominating on the soccer scene at age 5. I continued playing soccer at Michigan State University during my four years of undergrad and loved the school so much I decided to stay for medical school. While at MSU I met my amazing boyfriend Eric, who also bleeds green and white. I hope through residency you will still find me on a football Saturday tailgating in front of the stadium. While in medical school I made my first couple trips to Haiti, which profoundly impacted my life, and I am looking forward to continuing my involvement as part of HDVCH! With my personal experience with leukemia and the passing of my father, I became involved with fundraising for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I encourage people to take the time opportunity to be a bone marrow donor. Three close friends of mine have donated in the past 6 years! In my spare time you can find me cooking without recipes, pretending to garden, or sitting on a patio with friends. I enjoy having people over to our new home for a chance to kick back and celebrate life. I'm thrilled to call Grand Rapids and HDVCH my home.

I was born and raised in Delavan, Wisconsin - located in the SE part of the mitten :) I went to undergrad at the University of Wisconsin Madison, where the most important thing I learned was that no matter how the season went, nothing beats Badger football. After four wonderful years in Madison I headed to Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee for medical school. I have two wonderful sisters, both who still live in Madison, and a fiance (Andrew) who is an orthopaedic surgery here in GR. In my spare time I like to spend time with family and friends, work out, read non-medical things, shop, beat Andy at supermario brothers, and cheer for the Badgers!

I grew up on a farm in southern Michigan, just outside Coldwater. I graduated from Hope College in Holland, MI with a B.S. in Chemistry, I momentarily became a buckeye and attended medical school at The Ohio State University, but I'm very excited to be back in the great state of Michigan. I was born in Grand Rapids, and went away for school to the University of Oklahoma! I majored in Psychology, with a minor in the medical humanities. I married my high school sweetheart, and she moved down to OK to help put me through medical school. We are very excited to be back home, with both of our families around to help out with the new baby, due in October 2010! During my free time, I like to play racquetball, watch campy tv shows and movies, and I'd like to get into running more seriously. I'm also looking forward to doing some camping and hiking around both peninsulas!

I was born in the very hospital I now staff as a resident, Butterworth/DeVos Children's Hospital. I was raised in a small farming community in rural northeastern South Dakota, named Willow Lake. I graduated high school from Mattawan, Michigan, and then moved back to South Dakota for a girl! I attended and graduated from the University of South Dakota, and then medical school at Sanford School of Medicine at the University of South Dakota. I have a wife of five years (the girl), who I met in kindergarten and who I grew up with. We have two little boys, Maverick who is 2 and a half (and named after the Tom Cruise character in the 1986 classic "Top Gun"), and Everett who is 5 months (named after the Patrick Dempsey character in the 1994 movie "With Honors"). I enjoy long walks with a double stroller, building sandcastles in the sand, and green flav-a-ice popsicles. Outside of work/school, the majority of my time is spent with my wife and boys. I enjoy hunting ring-necked pheasants, the only state bird which can legally be hunted, and I hope to take a turkey for this year's Thanksgiving meal.

I was born in India and have been in the US since 5th grade. I graduated from Indiana University, Bloomington with a major in Biology and a triple minor in Chemistry, Social Science & Medicine, and Folklore & Ethnomusicology before entering medical school. The best part about medical school was volunteering in Eldoret, Kenya at the end of my fourth year. In my free time, I love to hike, go dancing (next task-learn salsa), and play volleyball as well as softball. I love to watch basketball, soccer, and tennis. When solo, I like to dream of my next project abroad (ha-ha!), paint, read mysteries, do arts & crafts, and just enjoy life with a big SMILE!

I was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, but soon after moved to Wisconsin and then New Jersey. When I was a junior in high school, my family completed the full circle and moved back to Grand Rapids, Michigan. I majored in Biology at Cornerstone University then continued my medical education at Michigan State University. I am very excited about continuing my medical education in Grand Rapids and couldn't be happier about this program! In my spare time, I love to downhill ski, play and watch soccer, spend time with friends and family, play games, and pick up a good book (non medical!). If I get a chance to travel, I enjoy a good ski trip out west.

I was born and raised in Des Moines, IA. I was fortunate enough to live in the same house, in the same room until I left for college. I went to St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN which is about 30 minutes south of the Twin Cities. St. Olaf was a great experience for me that provided lifelong friendships, memories, and pointed me in the direction of medicine as a career after I received my undergrad degree in Biology. I attended medical school at Des Moines Osteopathic Medical School. In my free time I enjoy running, biking, playing Frisbee, and really any activity I can participate in outdoors. I like to attend sporting events (Go Cubs/Bears/Fighting Irish), as well as musicals and plays. I have always enjoyed reading for pleasure, especially historical fiction

I was born and raised in sunny California. My parents told me I could go to any college I wanted as long as it was Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI. I have been here ever since, and married a local girl who is now a pediatrician here in town. As an undergraduate I majored in Philosophy. After failing to get a job at any of the Philosophy companies in town, I went to MSU to get my M.S. in Epidemiology from MSU. I ultimately attended medical school at Michigan State University. I enjoy running, building stuff around the house, photography, and playing the guitar.

Currently, our favorite TV show is Celebrity Apprentice.

I was born in LaCrosse, Wisconsin but grew up in Melrose, Wisconsin. I did my undergrad at the University of Wisconsin, Madison before jumping over the pond to do medical school at Michigan State. I love playing euchre and cribbage. I enjoy traveling so much that I have managed to get to every continent except Antarctica--I plan to get their someday but it's not a very high priority right now. I also just got a work bench and some power tools so I am starting to take on some small woodworking projects. As far as music goes, I am a 80s child at heart. I get excited about almost anything outdoors, especially softball, downhill skiing, rollerblading, going to baseball games or just grilling out.

Robert Budinsky, M.D. I was born and raised in Youngstown, Ohio and went on to receive my undergraduate degree from Xavier University in Cincinnati, I then completed medical school at the University of Toledo College of Medicine, in Toledo, Ohio. Since I've spent my entire life in Ohio, I am anxious to begin another chapter in Western Michigan! Away from the hospital, I'm easily distracted by anything that involves sports. I enjoy keeping active, and I am an avid fan of Xavier basketball and Denver Broncos football. I also cheer for the Ohio State Buckeyes (but I'll do so much more quietly now that I live in Michigan!). I love most music as well, especially blues/jazz and classical. Even though I play both the piano and saxophone, I prefer to listen to the professionals. That's why I currently have season tickets to the symphony!

Kristin Will, M.D. Having been raised on a small farm in northern Indiana, I am a country girl at heart. I love being outdoors, especially in the fall. During my first of undergrad, I met my wonderful husband, Adam (who is a Med/Peds intern), and somehow we managed to survive all four years together at the Indiana University School of Medicine. We are now up for the biggest adventure of our lives after the birth of our twins on April 2, 2008. Before my beautiful twins, Noah and Abigail, were born, my interests included reading, being outdoors, gardening and spending time with family. Now my interests include spit-up, dirty diapers, and seeing the world through beautiful, curious new eyes. I cannot wait to share my love for reading and the outdoors with my little ones.
