Why I chose this program/Grand Rapids for my training

I chose Grand Rapids for my training because I felt like the clinical teaching environment was one that would foster my growth as a future medical practitioner and allow for a smooth and fruitful transition to my radiology residency at the same institution. The radiology faculty and residents were intelligent, kind, and supportive, and it felt like a team I wanted to be a part of. The city of Grand Rapids feels like a place I will be proud to call home, with its vibrant culture that is full of energy and enthusiasm that bears much resemblance to my hometown.

Hobbies/what I do outside of work.

I will partake in most any athletic activities, especially recreational basketball, football, and baseball/softball, as well as golf. I also like to be outdoors and enjoy hiking, camping, and fishing.

Why I chose this program/Grand Rapids for my training

My husband and I did the couple's match and loved our respective programs and Grand Rapids when we first came to visit. We wanted a big change and a new life away from home. We realized that we would receive the best training in our respective fields all while enjoying the endless activities and entertainment that the city and West Michigan have to offer. One of the aspects that attracted me most to the program was the low-stress yet educational-driven camaraderie amongst the residents and the faculty.

Hobbies/what I do outside of work

I love playing soccer, basketball, volleyball, etc. I work out as much as I can as well. I always try to find time to enjoy new things, come up with new hobbies or just go out with my husband and try to meet new people.

Why I chose this program/Grand Rapids for my training

I chose GRMEP because culture as well as the educational experience is important to me. Even before visiting the program I was impressed with the friendliness and kindness of those I dealt with as well as the layout of the curriculum. I was only more impressed on interview day when meeting the remainder of the faulty and residents as well as the tour of the facilities and city. I have no doubt that having a close group of residents with all of the resources GRMEP has to provide I will finish my residency with all of the tools I will need to succeed.

Hobbies/what I do outside of work

Hiking, fishing, snowboarding/skiing, soccer, cooking and OF COURSE rooting for my co-owned NFL team, the Green Bay Packers.

Why I chose this program/Grand Rapids for my training

I chose this program because I wanted a community hospital experience, but I also wanted to be in a large tertiary care facility to be able to see enough pathology to be confident in my training going forward from residency. I noticed the residents in the radiology residency program in Grand Rapids got along well with each other and shared a collegiality that benefited everyone in the group. Grand Rapids has been a great city to live in with plenty of activities, restaurants, and shops.

Hobbies/what I do outside of work

Outside of work I spend time with my wife and daughter. We enjoy exploring all of the restaurants and breweries that Grand Rapids and the surrounding area has to offer. We also like to spend time outdoors and visiting the lake shore. My hobbies include fly fishing, rock climbing, cycling, camping, hiking, kayaking, being outdoors, and traveling.

Professional Interests

After residency I plan on going on to fellowship and then practicing in a private practice group. My interests in radiology are currently broad and I have not narrowed down a sub-specialty to pursue.

Why I chose this program/Grand Rapids for my training

I chose Grand Rapids because of the size of the program and the quality of the residents and faculty. Our program is categorical, but I still would have chosen this program if it were advanced. The amount of one on one attention I receive from faculty on a daily basis is more than I could have ever asked for. We have a wonderful program director and program coordinator who both listen and care very much about our needs and wants. It's a family environment here.

Why I chose this program/Grand Rapids for my training

I was lucky to have trained in Grand Rapids as a medical student at Michigan State. Needless to say, I found Grand Rapids had everything I was looking for in a residency. The enormous volume between the 2 hospital systems provides a rich experience in diversity and training that is among the top in the state. Another critical component is having the opportunity to train within two different hospital systems. This has provided me with the ability to contrast the differences between the two opposing systems and equipped me with knowledge as I look for a job in either type of system in the future. Finally, its in Grand Rapids - Beer City USA, what else is there to say?
