Professional Interests

I choose to pursue a medical career to help others have a healthier and happier life. I believe that there is no better way of achieving that goal than helping others during a time of significant period of illness for either themselves or a loved one.

Why I chose this program/Grand Rapids for my training

My choice to come to Grand Rapids was a simple one. When I was interviewing it simply felt like home!

Hobbies/what I do outside of work

I enjoy spending my free time creating; gardening, quilting, baking.

Why I chose this program/Grand Rapids for my training

This year I will be piloting a Pediatric Track of the Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship through GRMEP. I have been following the growth of Helen DeVos Children's Hospital since it was first built, and have been very impressed by the quality and caliber of the physicians and the care provided there. I was very excited about the opportunity to help in building a new Pediatric Palliative Care program, as they are desperately needed across the country.

Hobbies/what I do outside of work

I love to read and am always looking for a good book club to join. I also enjoy live music and all kinds of live theater and performance. I am very excited to learn more about Grand Rapids and explore the city.

Professional Interests

I did my Pediatrics Residency at the University of Iowa, and just completed my Pediatric Heme/Onc Fellowship at the University of Colorado Denver. I have had a strong interest in Palliative Care since medical school, and I am very interested in how good palliative care affects long term outcome in pediatric cancers and other chronic diseases.
