Why I chose this program/Grand Rapids for my training

I chose GRMEP for a number of reasons. Firstly, the residents displayed a sense of enjoyment in the field they chose. They were confident that the teaching environment they were in provided them a definite preparation to launch onto the next phases of their careers. They were excited and proud to have chosen GRMEP as their training ground. Secondly, the faculty and staff impressed upon me a feeling that there is true camaraderie in this program, where anyone could be a teacher and a mentor for one another. There was certainly an atmosphere here that was built to promote education, growth and comfort. Lastly, Grand Rapids as a city is inviting and accepting, with just the right elements to help anyone start off on the right foot.

Why I chose this program/Grand Rapids for my training

I chose to train at GRMEP due to the great clinical experience you get by training at Spectrum Health, which is a tertiary care center with referrals from all the local/regional hospitals in West Michigan. I felt as if the hospital system had experienced rapid expansion over the past decade and has been able to attract talent across multiple sub-specialties to help become one of the leading healthcare systems in Michigan. Also, GRMEP's close association with MSU-CHM allows us to have quite a few opportunities to help teach and work with medical students from the various classes. With MSU's new curriculum, residents at GRMEP will be getting greater exposure to help teach incoming M1's and M2's at MSU. Also, I felt that due to the small size of the program, the residents all are able to build close friendships with each other and you are able to feel as if you are part of a family.

Hobbies/what I do outside of work

I love reading various fictional books, watching and playing football. Also, I love watching various TV shows and pretty much every new movie that's come out in the past decade.

Coming from general surgery at the Mayo Clinic and Rutgers, I chose MSU-CHM/GRMEP as my first choice for my Internal Medicine training because of the amazing facilities and large referral base.
