Our interview format is uniquely different and begins the day we receive your application. All of the nearly 200 applications we receive each year are screened by our residents and faculty interviewers. We only interview 24-28 medical students for our two yearly spots.
Our interview process is such an important day that all of our residents are excused from clinical responsibilities so they are free to get to know you and help you learn about our outstanding residency. As we know, the interview process for applicants is long, arduous, and expensive, we want you to leave Grand Rapids with a true feeling of who we are and how our program functions. The night before the interview day the residents host a dinner at a local restaurant. This allows you to meet our residents and their spouses/significant others. The interview day itself begins at 11:30a with lunch and an informative resident presentation about our residency and our city.
You will interview with residents and with 3 or 4 faculty members during the afternoon. Of course, we also have the usual boring, but informative campus tour that all residencies have. For those applicants who do not have to leave town until the following day, there is a post-interview dinner, also hosted by residents at a different local restaurant to further enhance your Grand Rapids experience.
